A private transfer is booked against a named flight, so the driver tracks the arrival time and is waiting when you land rather than being hailed once you are through the doors.
Vehicles are matched to the group — a car for a couple, a minivan for a family with cases — and child seats are fitted on request instead of hoped for on arrival.
Kos International sits inland, and the resorts are spread out.
Kos International Airport (KGS) is near Antimachia, roughly in the middle of the island. Kos Town is around thirty minutes away to the north-east; Kefalos and the Kefalos Bay resorts are a similar distance in the opposite direction, and Kardamena is closer at about ten minutes.
Public transport from the terminal is thin. Buses exist but are tied to their own timetable rather than to flight arrivals, so a delayed or late-evening landing can leave you waiting a long time. Taxis queue outside but numbers are limited, and a wave of arrivals can clear the rank quickly in high season.
That is the case for booking a private transfer in advance: a named driver waiting in arrivals, a fixed price agreed beforehand, and a vehicle sized for your group and luggage. It matters most for late arrivals, for families with young children and car seats, and for anyone heading to the far ends of the island at Kefalos or Mastichari.
Especially for late arrivals, when buses and taxis thin out quickly.
KGS sits inland near Antimachia, roughly 25km from Kos Town.
Pre-booking lets you request child seats and space for luggage.
Agreed in advance rather than metered on arrival.
