About Kastri Island
By far the most photographed spot on the island of Kos is the island of Kastri, located in the bay of Kefalos, opposite the beach and the Early Christian Basilica of Agios Stefanos. The islet of Kastri, which is also called Palaiokastro on some maps, got its name for obvious reasons, as seen from the remnants of some fortifications scattered across the islet. These are Medieval ruins that, along with the chapel of Saint Nicholas, adorn an otherwise simple rock. It is located 90 metres from Agios Stefanos beach. Due to the short distance from the shore, access is possible in various ways using rental water sports equipment, such as a pedal boat, or by swimming (even for a novice swimmer, it is less than a fifteen-minute swim).
